George "Terry" Derventzis passed away peacefully on the morning of Saturday, December 10th after a long battle with mesothelioma. He is survived by his wife, Maria Dulce Derventzis (née Ochsemberg) and his daughter, Jessica Litsa Derventzis. He was born in Greece on January 13th, 1947. As a child, his family moved to Sydney, Australia where Terry spent most of his adolescence. He joined the airline in the winter of 1973 and flew for CP Air, Canadian Airlines, and then Air Canada before retiring at the age of 62. He and Maria married in June, 1995.

Terry loved his time flying more than anything else. Even after retiring, he and Maria traveled to every corner of the world together. Always the social butterflies, they often took trips and cruises with their best friends. Terry also made it his mission to pass along the travel bug to Jessica. His first major trip with Maria and Jessica was to Honolulu, Hawaii in 1995. It worked; she was hooked. Jessica tagged along on many layovers with the two of them. Some favourite trips of hers were to Malta, New Zealand, and a quick weekend in Japan. Terry always said that his greatest wish would have been to go back to Bora Bora. It was the trip of a lifetime for him.

In addition to flying, Terry was passionate about many things. He was the go-to guy for anyone in need. He loved chauffeuring people around and lending a hand whichever way he could. He is probably already the life of the party up in Heaven. He loved to cook and could often be found in the kitchen concocting new hot sauces, lentils, or his famous spaghetti carbonara. He collected pens and water bottles from around the world and loved any paraphernalia showing off his Greek and Aussie pride. However, his favourite past time was making up quirky superstitions to pass along to his friends and family, that they all happily followed. As an example: at a party or out to dinner, it was not uncommon to see someone blow into a bottle of wine and make a wish, once the last drop had been poured. Your wish is guaranteed to come true!

Terry has so many friends and family who have been sending messages of love and peace from all over the world: his Aunt Sophie, Uncle Louis, cousin George and everyone in Australia (Effie, Amy, Alex, Jess, Aaron, Lucas, Costa, and so many more...), cousins Yanna, Giannis, Kostas and pretty much half of Greece, as well as Maria's brother Alfredo and sister-in-law Renée, their sons Eric (Josée and Sofia) and Francis, and her extended family in Portugal and Montreal.

Terry's family thanks everyone for reaching out during this very difficult time. They hope to see everyone at the visitation on Wednesday and the funeral on Thursday to honour this great man. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made to Princess Margaret Hospital in Terry's name.
