Donald peacefully passed away on Tuesday December 20, 2016 at Camilla Care, Mississauga Ontario. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and was dearly loved. He was born September 11, 1929 in New Glasgow, Pictou Co., Nova Scotia. He was married to his beloved wife Joan for 62 years. He will be greatly missed by Joan, his brother Charlie, his children Kathryn, Donna (James), Alanna (Andrew) Lori (Tracy) and Michael (Michelle), his grand-children Jonathon, Melissa, Lindsay, Tyler, Daniel, Jason, Annie and Zoe and his great-grand-children Payton, Reid, Lyric and River. He was predeceased by his grandson Benjamin, his siblings Betty, Joan, Alan and Gordon, his father Ira (“Snipper”), his mother Annie, his father in-law Allan Kirkham and his mother-in-law Isobel.

Don moved to Toronto in 1950 to work at Goodyear. He met and married Joan and they raised their family in Streetsville. In 1983 they retired to Parry Sound, where Joan had grown up. Don bought a 1948 Ford tractor and built himself a garage where he could put his talents to use as the town’s Mr. Fix-it. He loved fishing, playing cards, bowling and spending time with his family and many friends. In 2003 Don and Joan moved to Barrie and a few years later they moved to Port Credit to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Don used to claim, "Babies, dogs and little old ladies love me," and he was right. Don’s generosity and unique sense of humour will be missed by everyone who knew him.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place.

If so desired donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or Cystic Fibrosis Canada.
